The Town of Viking offers excellent learning opportunities for residents from pre-school through to Grade 12.


Children between the ages of 3 and 5 years of age are encouraged to become engaged in age appropriate development activities. Socialized and open ended learning is a focal point. Playschool is held on Tuesday and Thursday, beginning in October and ending in May.

The Viking School, part of the Battle River School Division, provides instruction and an impressive selection of extra-curricular activities to students from kindergarten through grade 12. Please contact the school for more information on registration and programs.

The aim of the local schools is to prepare students to continue their education at any of the finest universities, colleges and trade schools in Canada and abroad. The University of Alberta and The University of Calgary are popular destinations, as is Grant MacEwan College and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. Local options include The Augustana University College in Camrose. Just 75 km southwest of Viking, Augustana is a residential liberal arts college which provides quality university education in a rural setting.

Adult Education

We should never stop learning. Adult education programs ranging from personal interest to more formal educationalcourses are available in Viking through the Beaver County Adult Learning Council. For those interested in honing their business skills the East Central Alberta Community Futures Development Corporation offers specialized, on-site training in business development and entrepreneurship.
