Committees, Boards and Commissions

The responsibilities of a member of Council are many. Besides attendance at regular meetings of Council, each member of Council sits on a number of Boards and Committees. These appointments may be to either Town of Viking Advisory Boards and Committees or External Boards and Committees with Regional Partners.

There are 15 boards and committees with Council-representation. Elected officials are appointed to specific boards and committees for one-year terms during the organizational council meeting held in the fall.

Viking Municipal Library To provide comprehensive and efficient library services An autonomous Board under the Libraries Act 1 member of Council Every Second month – second Tuesday
Beaver Foundation Management Agency To provide accommodation in a home like atmosphere for Senior Citizens Articles of Incorporation 1 member of Council Last Tuesday of the Month
Viking Economic Development Committee To promote, expand and enhance the economic development of the Town By-law No. 2003-551 12 members appointed by resolution of Council Last Wednesday of the month
Facilities User Meeting To update and coordinate the activities of the community facilities and develop a master plan for the Town’s recreation facilities By resolution of Council "A member from organizations that use Town facilities i.e. Ag. Society, minor ball, minor hockey, soccer, figure skating A yearly meeting
Kalyna Country To Promote Tourism in North-eastern & Central Alberta Shareholders of Kalyna Country 1 member of Council Call of the Chair
Highway 14 Regional Water Services Commission To provide a safe, secure supply of potable water to the Communities within Beaver County By Order in Council – Government of Alberta 154/90 2 members of Council Rotating quarterly meetings
Battle River Alliance for Economic Development (BRAED) To pursue opportunities for growth & development through regional cooperation and collaboration Funded through a Regional Partnership Grant – Alberta Municipal Affairs 1 Council member 3 – 4 times per year or call of the Chair
Community Partners for Wellness To provide for an exchange of information from the various helping professions within the area Under the auspices of Regional Health Authority #5 1 Council Member First Tuesday of the month – 0900 hours
Beaver County Municipalities Joint Council Meeting To discuss common issues and promote regional cooperation By resolution of the 5 local authorities within the boundaries of Beaver County The Councils and administrators of the 5 local authorities within Beaver County. Spring and Fall -Last Monday and additional as necessary depending on issues
Beaver Emergency Services Commission To provide Fire Protection and Emergency Management Services within the limits of the Town of Viking Established in 2010 under O.C. 137/2010 1 Council Member First Thursday of the month
